P.A.R.K.

For “P.A.R.K (Places Alternatively Redesigned by Kids)” we (Marta Llurba, Anita Hernandez, Nicolas Mendez) researched a residential area in Barcelona called San Andreu. We were particularly interested in the minimal number of playgrounds in the area and if there was one, it was usually quite boring and surrounded by a fence. So not a very playful atmosphere. We were specifically interested in a square in the center of the district called “Can Fabra”. A square that is mainly used by children who play there, even though it is not a designated playground.

Our first step was to get in touch with the children in the neighborhood. We organized a day where we asked the children how they would decorate the square if it were up to them. We did this by having the children draw on printed photos of the square.

We then started working with these drawings and made a board game. With this we want to indicate that a city like Barcelona would do well with the approach of children. In this way, neighborhoods such as San Andreu can have a nicer, playful atmosphere.
