Guided Obsolescence
“Guided Obsolescence” (Nine Human Blocks) aims to blur human-nonhuman boundaries by crafting waste materials into 6x6x6cm blocks. These nonhuman objects gain a human experience by accompanying the designers’ daily activities for one week. After that, the transformed objects are presented together in a bigger acrylic display that connects their remains with the initial materials and processes they have gone through.
The project was then presented at the Unfold Exhibition event during Milan Design Week 2024 to give insight on the connection between design, durability and a designer’s accountability and purpose.
Guided Obscolescence serves as the start of a discussion on awareness on material use and posthuman ideas when it comes to objects.
