“Laat je horen, laat je zien!” Is a project that was realized through the Gangmakers children’s creative program hosted by social design studio The Beach in Amsterdam. In a 10 week creative course for children age 7 to 11. Together with Oli d’Cruz we created a program for children to creatively pay attention to their neighbourhood. Through typography, puppetmaking and performance they created a parade through the neighbourhood showing what they would like to see change or see more of in their living space.

The project Dear Diary showcases a different way of structurally logging a day in life without using words or written text. Since I have always had trouble with keeping up with my many diaries and agendas throughout my academic life I wanted to know if this is simply a patience problem, or if I don’t connect to written text as much when it comes to logging data.

My thesis work: “Ways we play, a thesis on play in the context of time, space and form”was derived from my interest in the connection between play and sustainability. I mainly approached this concept on its connection to the public space.
I wanted to discover what the definition is of a play space. And could these lines be blurred. Should there be regulation around play spaces, should there be fences around playgrounds? Through this research I created a game using a biomaterial made from eggshells. I wanted to see if an alternative to plastic could be used for toy-creation. One that is meant to degrade through time, just as people grow up, why not let the game grow (or rather fade) with them?

“Festa a la Plaça” is a collaborative project developed in Barcelona as part of the Design Research Master’s program. In collaboration with —Virginia Podova, Fatima Valer, Mohammed El Sabee— we discovered a local protest group in the Poblenou neighborhood opposing a fence placed by the city around a square previously used as a community space. The fence turned the square into a more secluded, private area, raising questions about public vs. private spaces in Barcelona

“Buurtjournaal” Is a projects that was realized through the Gangmakers children’s creative program. Hosted by Social Design studio The Beach in Amsterdam. In a 10 week course children between the ages of 7 & 12 created creative work surrounding the theme: Buurtjournaal. Using different forms of media such as: photography, videography, podcast making and storyteling the children created a newspaper and podcast about their lives and their neighbourhood.
titel. Lost in translation
Lost in Translation is an alternative language model based on sound. Using the letter keys on a standard keyboard sound sequences are generated. This creates a new way of interacting through a contemporary way of communication. Without using any human vocal sound messages can be heard and interpreted. To add a visual portrayal of this new language, a base shape was chosen to create a simple alfabet. The smaller the size of the circle the closer the letter is to the beginning of the alfabet. and the earlier the letter appears in the alfabet the lower the frequency of the responsive sound.
Kind P.A.R.K
For “P.A.R.K (Places Alternatively Redesigned by Kids)” we (Marta Llurba, Anita Hernandez, Nicolas Mendez) researched a residential area in Barcelona called San Andreu. We were particularly interested in the minimal number of playgrounds in the area and if there was one, it was usually quite boring and surrounded by a fence. So not a very playful atmosphere. We were specifically interested in a square in the center of the district called “Can Fabra”. A square that is mainly used by children who play there, even though it is not a designated playground.
